The course will be divided into two different disciplines,
namely theory and practical. In each session there will be
an hour where the mentor will teach you the principals of
writing, followed by an hour of practical writing. The mentor
will be on hand to provide the necessary assistance where
needed. He will also then grade the essays and illustrate
where improvements can be made.
Topics that will be covered are
- A process approach to reporting and writing.
- Finding and writing a lead.
- Story forms - shaping the news.
- Learning to listen (building interviewing skills).
- Writing online news.
The length of the course will be between 10 and 15 hours.
This will depend on the learners' skills and ability.
Mr. Bernard Hellberg will be the course facilitator. Mr.
Hellberg has a Masters degree in Communication (Potchefstroom).
He teaches 2nd year journalism at the Boston City Campus and
has given class in Public Relations in the past. Since 1993
Mr. Hellberg has been a motoring journalist in Afrikaans and
English and he is also a juror for the Car of the Year Competition.
The cost of the course will be R390 per hour for the first
delegate. Add R50 per hour for every consecutive delegate.
We do the training at your premises and traveling is included
in the Gauteng area.
